MEET THE TEAM

As an industry-led collaboration, we do much of our work through our members and so we have just a small core of staff. They are supported by team members from Grant Thornton (consultancy services) and Mishcon de Reya LLP (legal) who donate their time to us without charge.

RUTH EVANS

Ruth is the chair of Stop Scams UK.  She has a forty-year track record of representing the public and consumer interest across a wide range of industries and regulatory authorities. She is passionate about putting service users at the heart of service delivery and believes that bridge-building between stakeholders is the key to transforming service delivery.

She chaired the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority and the APP Steering Group that delivered a new industry code in July 2018 to reimburse victims of authorised payment scams. She was also a Non-Executive Director of the Serious Fraud Office.

MARK TIERNEY

Mark is the Chief Executive of Stop Scams UK. He joined as Deputy Director in September 2020 from the BBC, where he worked for 11 years in a variety of marketing roles across digital and broadcast businesses. Before that he worked at the Guardian and at Procter & Gamble, working on brand building and digital transformation. He is also a Board Trustee of Wilton’s Music Hall, a heritage building and performing arts venue in London’s East End.

SIMON MILLER

Simon is Director of Policy and Communications for Stop Scams UK. Before joining in October 2021, Simon was Head of Government Affairs at Three, leading the business’ response to major policy initiatives in the telecoms policy space, including the Shared Rural Network and Covid. Before that Simon worked in senior positions across a number of Government Departments including DCMS, BEIS as also on the Leverson Inquiry into phone hacking. Simon is a Councillor for the London Borough of Waltham Forest where he leads work on economic growth and development.

EMMA HARVEY

Emma is the Chief Digital Officer for Stop Scams UK. Emma started her career in Telecommunications (Vodafone, O2 & Optus) in Product Management before moving into building digital products across a variety of marketplaces (MoneySuperMarket, Autotrader, Livebookings, Techradar, PC Gamer) and verticals including regulated environments. Before joining in 2023 she was the General Manager for Money at MoneySuperMarket and Money Saving Expert, the Chief Product Officer at Future PLC, and a NED with the mortgages fintech Podium Solutions.  She is passionate about connecting users and business to create better outcomes for all and will be focusing on building out Data sharing initiatives.

RICHARD COOPER

Rich is the Delivery and Relationship Manager at Stop Scams UK. Prior to joining in January 2024, he had built up an extensive background in client-facing roles encompassing account management and customer success across tech, the built environment and media, including 4 years in the Guardian's commercial team. Rich has spent the majority of his career working closely with clients to understand their motivations, challenges and is passionate about working with them to deliver successful outcomes.

HESTER ABRAMS

Hester is responsible for International Engagement, Communications and New Business at Stop Scams UK. Trained as a journalist with Reuters, she was a foreign and financial correspondent and Editor of Reuters Magazine, with stories published all over the world. As Head of Heritage at Willesden Cemetery, she led a National Lottery Heritage-funded project to create a new public visitor experience at one of London’s least-known Victorian cemeteries.

JIMMY BROCK

Jimmy joined Stop Scams UK as a Policy and Communications Officer in May 2022, after working as a Research Officer for the Polar Research and Policy Institute and Prevista, working on regeneration and AEB employment projects in the UK and France.

JAMES MASTERS

James is the Stop Scams UK Senior Communications and Press Officer. A former award-winning journalist with a background in sports, news and politics, James joined in November 2023. James spent much of his career at CNN where he worked on a raft of high-profile stories and events, forming a key part of the news team and appearing regularly as an analyst on television. After starting out at the Hackney Gazette and BBC London, James went on to write regularly for a number of outlets including The Times and Daily Mirror. He was also the News and Features editor at openDemocracy.

ROBERT PRINT

Rob is Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Stop Scams UK. Before joining in March 2022, Rob was Head of Executive Office & Governance at The Law Society, where he led strategic support for the CEO and President and oversaw the effective functioning of its corporate governance. Rob has over fifteen years’ experience delivering consulting, finance and strategy services, and has worked for the Civil Service, EY, the General Optical Council and KPMG. Rob is also a trustee and board member of Bipolar UK, a national mental health charity.

SAM BLACK

Sam is a qualified EA with over 12 years experience. Sam began working with Stop Scams UK in June 2020 as the Executive Assistant. She previously worked at the Financial Conduct Authority for 10 years where she provided support for various Head of Departments and Directors. After leaving the FCA Sam worked for numerous organisations as a Virtual Assistant. Sam works flexibly and part-time for Stop Scams UK.
